Strengths and drawbacks of different kinds of generators:
As each household has different power needs, the generators that support
them are also of different types. Your choices can be a diesel, petrol
or propane
generator offering portable option. A large propane tank can support the
generator to run longer. A natural gas generator can be directly connected
to your home gas line and easily run anytime.
The generators running on natural gas and propane have some standard safety
adjustments built in them. This is to prevent any kind of disaster like overheating,
oil pressure, leakage, explosion etc. from happening.
The two widely used home and commercial generators run on either gasoline
or diesel. Both of them have their strengths and weaknesses.
Strengths of a Gasoline Generator:
The plus points of a gasoline generator is that its lighter, quieter and
more cost effective than diesel engine. The engine comes with light weight
parts
which makes it more portable. It is best suited for supporting a home or
small industry. The fuel is easily accessible.
Strengths of a Diesel Generator:
These are heavy duty generators running on diesel. Though it might be expensive
than gasoline, the engine is so highly fuel efficient that it produces
more energy per liter. The energy is produced by compression-ignition
which negates
the danger of any accident or blast.
Diesel by Nature is heavier than petrol so burns less and produces
less carbon dioxide. It does not evaporate quickly, thus can be stored
for
a longer time.
Owing to the high power production and their rugged built, diesel
generators are meant for commercial use. One has to worry less about
handling
it as the engine is meant for heavy duty. You can run most of your
equipments
when they
are powered by a diesel generator. In this regard a gasoline generator
will fail to do this. Neither does it have the power nor is it safe
to run the
whole house on it.
